As you can see, he's clearly thrilled to be with Wolfsburg, though!

This is what we shall call the official closing of the door in its entirety on Julian Draxler not becoming a Juventus player this summer. There's nothing more to be said, nothing more to see and nothing more to worry about when it comes from one of Juve's most drawn out (and unrewarding) transfer sagas in recent memory.

Well, maybe we declare it case closed for good, there's a reason to be said as to why Draxler didn't become a Juventus player and instead signed with Wolfsburg from the player himself. So, Julian, what you gotta say for yourself?

"From the outside, maybe my move isn't understandable," Draxler told German outlet Bild.

"Schalke are a great club in Germany. Many people thought that if I left it would be for a top foreign club, but I decided not to go abroad as I didn't feel ready for that kind of move."

(Source: Football Italia)

As much as I want to totally believe what Draxler has to say in the above quote — and there's probably a decent bit of truth behind it; remember Domenico Berardi's reason for staying at Sassuolo two summer transfer windows ago? — it's hard to take it in full because of the roller coaster ride we just went on over the summer. Maybe that's because player-speak in the current climate should always be taken with at least some grain of salt, or maybe it's just the fact that Draxler's rumored salary boost makes staying home a little easier to deal with.

Eh, we can act like the scorned or rejected person at the school dance who didn't get picked for a slow dance with the popular girl. So much of our summer was consumed with talk of Draxler and the "Would he or won't he sign?" it's hard to deal with the fact that Juventus came up empty. Again, standing by the punch bowl during the last song... (I'm not talking from experience, you're talking from experience.)

Then again, Draxler is a 21-year-old kid who obviously thinks the best chance to become a better player is to play in the Bundesliga rather than Serie A or the Premier League. And obviously Juventus moved on quickly, making a deadline-day deal with Inter for Hernanes, who obviously isn't the potential future star that some think Draxler is.

The first Julian Draxler rumor to appear on this site was on July 16. That's over six weeks ago and with plenty twists and turns going on along the way that made it resemble a long and eventful transfer saga nobody wanted it to end up being.

There finally seems to be an end to this damn thing. And it doesn't involve Draxler flying to Italy and being mobbed by Juventus supporters at the airport. Heck, he's not even leaving the country.

Draxler, Schalke's 21-yard-old German starlet is no longer a Schalke player. That's because Schalke have succeeded in what they wanted all along — if Draxler was to leave the club, he was going to go for a boatload of cash. Reports out of both Germany and Italy are starting that Draxler is set to sign with Wolfsburg, as they spend a good chunk of their Kevin de Bruyne cash to bring Draxler in as a direct replacement.

Don't understand Italian? Well, let me break it down for you real quick.

Wolfsburg are about to hand Draxler a five-year contract worth €5 million a season. And with Draxler set to sign with Wolfsburg — a club he was playing against just a few days ago — Schalke are set to receive €36 million including bonuses. That is ... a lot a lot a lot of money for Julian Draxler.

Is it Juventus' fault that it got to this level? Well, that's what everybody will be yelling about for the next couple of days. As we've come to hear about, Juve were never going to pay that kind of money that Schalke ended up accepting for Draxler. We don't know what Juventus' final offer was before Wolfsburg came in and snatched Draxler right from under Beppe Marotta's nose, and we may never find out.

But this is what we do know: Draxler won't be a Juventus player, and now it's time to move on because of it.

Now we just wait and see where Juventus go after missing out on their No. 1 trequartista target. At least we know the pursuit of the next one won't last another six weeks. Thank goodness the end of the transfer window is finally within sight.

If Juventus hadn't begun negotiations to try and sign midfielder Julian Draxler this summer, we wouldn't have been "blessed" with the name of Schalke's sporting director, one Horst Heldt. It's one hell of a name, so very German in its own unique way. Another reason why we care about Horst Heldt? Because, as the club's sporting director, he's been the one speaking from Schalke's side of the Draxler negotiations — sometimes that's good, sometimes not so good.

Even as rumors linking Juventus with other players within the Bundesliga limits to fill their much-desired trequartista void — like, say, Borussia Dortmund's Henrikh Mkhitaryan — Heldt has been talking to the press once again. And it involves Juventus potentially moving for Draxler once again.

Only hours from Schalke's game against Darmstadt, in which Draxler is expected to start, Heldt confirmed previous reports that the Old Lady was set to make a final push.

"After we rejected the first offer we no longer had contacts with Juventus," he said, as reported by Bild. "But I think they'll give it one more try in the next few hours."

(Source: Football Italia)

Now, before we go freaking out about any sudden, last-minute move for Draxler, this is the same Heldt who said just a few short days ago that he wasn't going to rule out the talented young German leaving this summer.

So what does that mean?

Well, it's open to interpretation.

Maybe Heldt is going along with what a lot of people think — if Schalke get anything close to the €30 million price tag they've been demanding for Draxler all summer long, then Juve (or whatever team was making the bid), would be in business. That's how it's been from the very start. And maybe if Juve didn't be so much low-balling with their initial offer we wouldn't be talking about this right now.

But that's just the deal. The Italian press can link Juventus with a move for another trequartista, if Draxler is the one that is still a realistic and viable target for Juventus, there's no doubting they will try and sign him before the transfer window doors slam shut for the next few months.

I mean, San Beppe Marotta did say that Juve are going to be signing somebody before the transfer window is over, right? If you haven't learned by now, when Beppe speaks, you take it seriously. He's not one of those high-ranking football types who are here to just throw around B.S. all the time in the press. Beppe means business — and that involves getting the player he has his sights set on. There's no doubting that Draxler is exactly that.

It is now officially been over a month since reports surfaced saying Juventus was interested in signing talented Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler. It was in the midst of the collective freakout regarding Arturo Vidal's eventual departure, so maybe it doesn't seem like it was all too long ago. But, truth be told, a month of Draxler talk has gone by without much anything outside of paper chatter and a few quotes from either side actually happening.

The initial rush was exactly that. Now, however, as the Supercoppa has come and gone without much of anything going on, negotiations haven't really progressed all that much based on everything we've heard. Juventus, for as much as they reportedly want Draxler to be part of the squad come the end of the transfer window, haven't exactly given in to the demands Schalke have.

About those negotiations, though...

Okay, so Juventus' offer is getting closer from a overall transfer standpoint, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport. I guess they are? Maybe, but is that the kind of offer that will blow Schalke away? Nope. It's pretty certain at this point that Juventus want a large portion of their Draxler transfer bid to built around him reaching concrete conditions in the contract. Like, say, appearances considering he hasn't had the best of health history lately.

But here's the catch: Schalke don't want the €15 million or €18 million plus whatever the bonuses are. It's a flat fee, preferably as close to their €30 million price tag as possible, and that would be that. It's far and away from what Juventus are willing to offer from a base transfer fee standpoint. Basically Juventus will continue to get their offers turned down unless they pony up with the actual transfer fee and not make the final price so dependent on appearance bonuses.

As much as Draxler reportedly agreeing to personal terms may have helped from a player-Juventus point of view, the Schalke-Juventus angle — the most important one when it comes to this deal — isn't close to being on the same page.

If this is the final offer and Schalke turns it down, maybe this will mean Juventus will go for Erik Lamela. Or maybe they will go for Christian Eriksen. Or maybe Isco. Or maybe Riccardo Saponara. Or maybe Franco Vázquez. Or maybe they'll just play Simone Padoin as a trequartista. Who knows, man.

Based on how Juventus quickly got a lot of their summer business done, maybe we had it too good. Maybe we were in for a transfer saga that would be drawn out for the better part of the past month even if we didn't know it yet. And, unfortunately, that's exactly what we're getting in Juventus' chase to try and sign Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler.

We've heard about bids from Juventus' end and Schalke going ahead and rejecting said offers. We've known for quite a while that Juventus and Draxler have reportedly agreed to personal terms, but the same can't even close to being said about Juve and Schalke agreeing to a transfer fee. Add into the fact that Schalke 04 general manager Horst Heldt likes to talk and there will be plenty of things being said from the Schalke side of the equation.

A lot of his talking this summer has been related to how Juventus will have to pay lots and lots of money if they want to acquire the German international midfielder. Like, for instance, what Heldt said in the German press earlier in the week:

"Our plan is not to sell Julian. That said, in this business it's difficult to make definitive statements. If another club makes an astronomical offer for a player, for the good of the club you must always at least consider it. We want to keep him, but we can only definitively put the issue to bed on August 31. To say anything else would not be honest. Today I could say ‘he will not leave', but then a few days later a huge offer for him is put on the table."

(Source: Football Italia)

"Huge offer," he says. Maybe it's just me, but I'm starting to get the sense that Mr. Horst Heldt is interested in negotiating with Juventus through the press just as much as — if not more than — he's interested in talking to Beppe Marotta over the phone. Speaking of those same crazy journalists who give us transfer rumors, here's the latest from Sky Italia:

According to Sky, Juventus continue to work on signing Draxler but Schalke are not willing to lower their demands.

— Khaled Al Nouss (@KhaledAlNouss) August 12, 2015

Ah, right. It's a huge offer like Heldt said it is, then.

And who are we to blame Heldt and Schalke for staying firm on that big-money demand notion? They know that Draxler is a wanted commodity — and not just by Juventus, either. Arsenal have long been rumored to be interested in Draxler. And, on top of that, willing to come closer and closer to that magical €30 million figure that Schalke want to receive if they do part ways with the young No. 10. If reports are to be believed, Arsenal could try to swoop in with a last-ditch effort to sign Draxler, with a potential bid coming awfully close to the price tag Schalke oh so desperately say that they want.

Seeing as how many times Arturo Vidal signed for Manchester United last summer, it's not like I'm going to sit here and fret about Arsenal maybe giving Schalke the kind of offer they desire. But, at the same time, when you compare that reported fee to the one latest reports about Juventus' offer — something around the mid-€20 million range with fee and bonuses included — it's hard to deny that Juve are on the low side of the negotiations.

And as much as I want to tell myself "Oh, well that's just negotiations and that's just what it's going to be like!" seeing the chance to sign Draxler this summer get away will be a letdown. So maybe Juventus should just go ahead and make an offer worthy of something close to what Schalke wants and prevent any kind of transfer failure-related frustration from happening. Just an idea, though.

I would like to think that nobody thought negotiating with Schlake for the services of Julian Draxler would be something of relative ease. Juventus want the player and it's obvious, but just as clear is Schalke's desire to keep him with all their might. Or, at the very least, got a whooooole lot of money for him if they are to see him go.

In somewhat classic Beppe Marotta style, Juventus reportedly low-balled Schalke in their first offer to bring the talented German playmaker to Turin. But since then, it's been somewhat of radio silence, with Marotta saying Juve are in no rush to bring in Draxler — or anybody else, for that matter — even though the Serie A season is quickly approaching.

Maybe, just maybe, there could be some progress after Juventus faces Lazio in the Italian Super Cup this weekend. I sure hope there is, because it'd be cool to have Draxler in biancoerno this season and the next 10 after that.

Juventus will make new contact with Schalke 04 for Julian Draxler after Saturday's Supercup against Lazio. The German club wants to receive just a one-off payment for their player with no add-on's. But having already had one bid of €22 million rejected, the Bianconeri are adamant that they will not raise their offer for the highly rated German international - it seems this story is set to continue.

(Source: Gianluca Di Marzio)

Nobody wanted this turn into a transfer saga, but guess what? It is now.

Even with s potential trident of Alvaro Morata, Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala, Juventus clearly want a No. 10 to fill out their attack and be able to seriously compete in Europe again. Draxler is the No. 1 target, and even though the Italian press will continue to link Juve to other players — including fellow German Mario Götze — it apparent that Juve's attention are fully involved in Mr. Julian.

Schalke can say all they want about Draxler staying right where he currently is until Juventus make a significant offer that will give the former reason to think otherwise. The €15 million with ad-ons bid won't be enough by any means, nor will the reported €22 million bid listed above. Schalke want cash, and a lot of it. That means Marotta and Fabio Paratici, who loves themselves some shrewd transfer deals just like any other great transfer decision makers, will either have to continue to up their bid or quickly look elsewhere for a different No. 10.

No matter what, though, this isn't the last we've heard about Draxler and Juventus — no matter if he shows up in a couple weeks or not at all. Aren't transfer sagas tons of fun? (Don't answer that question because there's only one answer.)

Did you enjoy your weekend free of Julian Draxler rumors and/or news? I hope you did. It was kind of relaxing if you ask me. That's mainly because it's Monday, and there's more Draxler news to be had. And it's not rumors about how much Schalke want or why Juventus want to try and get him on loan. This is actual news with actual people saying actual things.

Like, say, Juventus director general Beppe Marotta talking about Juventus' transfer market just a few minutes after the 2015-16 Serie A schedule was released. Marotta's quotes are as follows:

"In a very realistic way, there are many proposals in the market. Today we presented an offer based on our evaluations and I think there's still a big gap," Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

"That was one of the many proposals we have put forward during this market. The player belongs to Schalke 04, so obviously it ultimately depends on them.

"We are in no rush, but the squad at Allegri's disposal is solid and we are trying to add a few cherries to the cake.

"We are working on a trequartista, or at least a midfielder with certain characteristics, and a left-back who can act as an alternative to Patrice Evra while Kwadwo Asamoah recovers from his injury.

"We are looking for eclectic players, who can allow us to set out the team in various different ways. We are looking for a midfielder with certain characteristics."

(Source: Football Italia)

Why does Marotta think there's a big gap between the offer Juventus presented and what Schalke wants for Draxler? Well, that's probably because Schalke has kicked Juve's first offer for Draxler — or at least the first one we know about officially — to the curb. There's still plenty of negotiating to do, ladies and gentlemen.

But if Beppe says the club is in no rush to get a deal done, then I'm not going to panic because one offer was rejected. That's how negotiations work — especially for a player like Draxler who is both in-demand and is going to cost a lot of money no matter what the final figure is. There will be offers and counteroffers. There will be offers rejected, and hopefully, at some point before the transfer window ends, a counteroffer accepted by Schalke. Then we can all focus on the upcoming season and everything will be fine and dandy.

Since we know that Juventus and Draxler agreeing to personal terms are basically out of the way since the beginning of the weekend, the one main objective is for the two clubs to try and find a resolution. Once they do that, Draxler is heading to Turin and having his own introductory press conference and Schalke has some money going into their bank accounts.

Seems relatively simple, right? At least in theory it is.

Well, there might not be an offer on the table between Juventus and Schalke for Julian Draxler, but that hasn't apparently prevented the Italian champions from getting other pieces of the deal done. That piece of the puzzle would be agreeing to terms with the 21-year-old Draxler, Juve's clear choice to become their new No. 10 at this point in time.

To the Di Marzio Machine!

So, if we take Di Marzio at his word -- which isn't always the worst thing to do in life -- it looks as though that rumored €5 million yearly salary after tax Draxler was demanding could very well be made up in the bonuses mentioned above. And, to be honest, with the way Draxler has battled injuries over the last year, having the contract constructed this way is the best way to go about it.

This is the first major step in getting Draxler to Turin. There's no doubt about it in anybody's mind that agreeing to personal terms with Draxler was going to be a little more difficult compared to some other transfer dealings this summer. Sure, the bigger negotiations still remain between Juventus and Schalke, but seeing as some believed there may be resistance on Draxler's part to move to Turin, reportedly agreeing to personal terms pretty much kicks that notion right out the door.

Now becomes the big test to see how long it will take for Juventus and Schalke to agree to a deal in relatively short order so we don't go through some huge transfer saga that will push the limits of the summer transfer window. From what's out there, it seems as though the €30 million price tag is where Schalke want to stay at. Would Juventus try and avoid that if need be? Who knows. But if the reported €20 million figure from Juve thrown out there is any indication of how things are going,

But one thing is out of the way, and now the hardest part of the negotiating phase either begins or continues depending on how you look at things. Draxler alla Juve? It certainly got a whole lot more interesting as midnight arrived in Italy late Friday night, that's for sure.
