We may have forgotten about this point in the season last year because everything was thrown completely off course by the pandemic, the shutdown in Italy and so much of the season being finished up over the summer, but the September international break is always so fun to see arrive.
Except it isn’t.
We got two Juventus games played, and even though they were far from “enjoyable” we arrive at the first international break with very little happening outside of speculation about what the squad will look like on the field coming out of the two-week span in between fixtures. Because of that, we wanted to get caught up on a few things as well as look ahead to those first couple of fixtures that Juve has on the schedule when the international break is over with.
On this week’s episode of The Old Lady Speaks, we discuss:
- A bit of a delayed reaction to the Champions League group stage draw in which Juventus have been put in the same group as last season’s winners, Chelsea.
- In talking about Chelsea, Sergio decides to declare he’s ready to die on a new type of hill.
- “Black & White & Malmö All Over.”
- Max Allegri will likely head into this weekend’s trip to Naples without some of his top players after they will return the day before and traveled back from South America for World Cup qualifiers.
- The Weston McKennie situation, one that saw the American midfielder sent back to Turin early after he was suspended by United States men’s national team head coach Gregg Berhalter for breaking COVID-19 protocol.
