The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, Episode 64: My Own Worst Enemy

Juventus’ season-opening struggles continued against Napoli this past weekend, and it’s not like they’re doing a whole lot to inspire confidence that they’ll turn it around any time soon.

Here we are again. You know the situation: We are, a group of four dudes on the internet, with a podcast to record after Juventus went out there and did stupid things, causing them to drop points in the process and tumble further down the Serie A table.

It’s a fun gig!

You should all be jealous.

(Well, maybe not totally jealous seeing how this season is going so far.)

Juventus dropped points once again over the weekend. As it stands now, Max Allegri’s return to the managerial spot at Juventus has gone about the opposite in which we had all hoped. With one point through three games and massive mistakes highlighting the team’s struggles, falling even further behind the other top clubs in Serie A is very much in the cards. And not just that, but the way in which Juve is dropping points — and in this case just like the last game before the international break — is arguably the most concerning part of all.

So now, with another big-time Serie A fixture on the horizon and the start of the Champions League stage only a matter of hours away, Juve’s form is markedly bad and suddenly their starting goalkeeper is about as big of a question mark as it has been in long, long time.

Sounds fun, doesn’t it? Yes, lots of fun. (But also lots to talk about, which is important for a podcast and general audio mediums.)

On this week’s episode of The Old Lady Speaks, we discuss:

  • Juventus played like crap again, this time against Napoli.
  • The suddenly glaring problem Juventus has in goal with Wojciech Szczesny.
  • How much of a leash should Szczesny have after another game-changing mistake?
  • Does that return of the South Americans inspire any kind of confidence that things will be a little bit better come Tuesday night against Malmö in the Champions League group stage opener?
  • Twitter questions, including a few about — you guessed it! — Wojciech Szczesny.
