There was no doubt who the best team in the Italy was over the course of the 2020-21 season, with the Juventus women winning every league match to finish with a perfect 66 points. However, since the season ended, the club has been filled with plenty of uncertainty surrounding the coaching staff, the players and the future of the club.

Fans got a small sense of relief from some of that uncertainty Friday afternoon when the club announced midfielder Barbara Bonansea renewed her contract with Juventus for at least one more season.

Since the season ended, rumours have been flying around several players in the club about whether or not they would still be around next season and Bonansea was no exception. She was often at the top of the list which is likely why the club wanted to release a statement and be a little extra with the video to get the fans excited. Or maybe that’s just the Italian way nowadays.

At the end of April, Bonansea was announced as the first female footballer to be represented by infamous agent Mino Raiola. That is when the rumors of a move really started firing off from every news outlet in Italy and even made some noise across borders.

Last month, Bonansea was linked to a possible free transfer move to Real Madrid which also could have included a swap for Juventus target Kosovore Asllani. This will not end the speculation of Asllani making the move but with this announcement, it seems to assure fans that Bonansea will not be a part of any deal.

Bonansea joined Juventus for its inaugural season in 2017 and has played a key role in the club grabbing all those trophies you see in the video above. She has scored 39 goals in 67 appearances and has done even more as a facilitator for the other attacking options.

In December, Bonansea was named to the FIFA World XI, becoming the first female Juventus player to earn that honor. Her games were limited during the 2020 calendar year due to an injury and the pandemic but she took some momentum into the second half of the season to help Juventus secure the league title.

Bonansea finished with eight goals and eight assists in Serie A, averaging over one goal contribution per 90 minutes.

While there are still many questions surrounding the future of the women’s team, this is a nice surprise. And after watching the video of all the things she has already won at Juventus, her final words in the announcement could make you just momentarily forget the rest of the drama in the club and already get excited for next season.

“We will continue to dream together. Fino Alla Fine.”
