The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, Episode 50: Sneaking In

Juventus, somehow, had everything go their way on the final day of the season, both winning and getting help to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Well, that was an exciting Sunday, wasn’t it?

Good thing that here at your favorite Juventus podcast that we had about 24 hours for the adrenaline to come down a little bit and be able to put some cohesive thoughts together all at once because that sure was a day’s worth of events packed into about two or three hours.

But, around 11 p.m. in Bologna, Juventus were celebrating a spot in the Champions League thanks to their 4-1 win AND Hellas Verona’s 1-1 draw with Napoli. (Napoli gonna Napoli — don’t you ever forget that, people.) One part of the equation was much easier than the other, and if it wasn’t for a few better results along the way then Juve would have never been in this situation, but judging by the players’ reactions as they found out what happened in Naples Sunday night, they didn’t really care at that point. They were in the Champions League, and they damn well were going to celebrate it after an absolutely crazy year with plenty of twists and turns and frustration to boot.

Now, of course, we don’t know what UEFA will do as a result of Juve’s still-confusing commitment to the defunct Super League, but that’s a matter for another day.

Juventus are in the Champions League — officially. They won the Coppa Italia a couple of days earlier. And now we head into this summer with some happy thoughts even though there is still so much unknown about what this team will look like the next time we see them playing a competitive game.

Good times, right?

On this week’s episode of The Old Lady Speaks, we discuss:

  • Some breaking news from the Chuks family right outta the gate!
  • A quick summary of just what it was like during the Juventus-Bologna/Napoli-Hellas Verona/AC Milan-Atalanta viewing experience.
  • Some thoughts on Juve’s Coppa Italia win over Atalanta.
  • Just what might be next for Juventus as we head into a summer that is filled with storylines, holes that need to be filled and a roster that could see its biggest stars as well as its manager leave.
  • Twitter questions! (And there are some good ones this week.)
