The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, Episode 49: Needing Help

New, comments

Juventus might have picked up a win over Inter Milan in the Derby d’Italia over the weekend, but they still remain on the outside looking in of the top four heading into the final game of the 2020-21 Serie A season.

Juventus did what they needed to do over the weekend and got a crucial win over Inter Milan in the Derby d’Italia on Saturday night. The problem with that is, as we full-well know by now, is that winning doesn’t necessarily guarantee Juve what they need at the moment — and that’s the chance to get back into the top four before the 2020-21 season comes to an end next week.

Basically, Juve got the win, but not the help they need.

So, as we head into the final weekend of the season, one where Juventus will be facing a team in Bologna that they have beaten already, Andrea Pirlo’s squad needs to win AND get some help from at least one other team.

Thus is the problem right now. And that is why this season has ultimately come down to one final game with readjusted expectations and goals rather than a celebratory final weekend where Juve’s lifting another trophy.

That is where the conversation centers around on this week’s podcast, and as you might guess there was still some frustration being expressed because Juventus is still struggling to finish in the top four with this squad. But now we head into a decisive weekend — and a Coppa Italia final against Atalanta a few days earlier — with a whole lot riding on what happens in multiple games this coming weekend rather than Juventus controlling their own destiny and fate for the Champions League next season.

On this week’s episode of The Old Lady Speaks, we discuss:

  • Juventus beat Inter — which is never not good.
  • Oh, what a refereeing performance we saw on Saturday night.
  • Why did it take this team this long to show some sense of urgency?
  • Just how preventable it was when it comes to this team not being in a situation where they need serious help on top of a win in the final game of the season to grab a spot in the top four.
  • A quick look ahead to the Coppa Italia final against Atalanta on Wednesday night.
  • The return of Twitter questions!
