Here we thought that we’d be talking about another Juventus loss on this week’s episode of The Old Lady Speaks. Then around midnight in Italy and about 16 or so hours before we hit record, all hell broke loose all across the European footballing world.
Juventus’ loss to Atalanta was no longer the story.
Juventus’ future and what that will look like, along with every other big club in Europe, was THE story. And then the next story. And then the next story. And then the next story.
The Super League is here. Or it’s at least as close as it has ever been to becoming a thing, and it’s completely taken over what started as a disappointing day with Juve dropping points in a last-minute loss to Atalanta. Juve’s latest loss became minor blip on the radar as compared to what happened later in the day, right before Sunday officially became Monday in Italy. One of the biggest stories in the history of the sport is now right in front of us, and then man who is at the top of the Juventus food chain, Andrea Agnelli, is one of the major players in the changing landscape in European football.
Behold, what is likely to be the first of many discussions about Juventus, the Super League, how the two are intertwined and what the hell is going to happen in Italy, Europe and the game as a whole because of it.
On this week’s episode of The Lady Speaks, we discuss the following:
- Yeah, you guessed it: Juventus and the European Super League.
- Andrea Agnelli’s role in the Super League.
- Some of the crazy finances of the Super League.
- Just how much the pandemic impacted the race to begin the Super League.
- Oh, right. Juventus played a game — and lost that game to Atalanta.
