The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, Episode 42: Speculation Station

There has been a lot of talk surrounding Paulo Dybala’s future at Juventus. With no games to talk about, we decided to add to that talk.

It’s an international break. It’s the first international break of 2021. And it’s the final international break before what is expected to be a summer full of changes at Juventus even though we don’t know what, exactly, those changes are going to be just yet.

Outside of the talk about Cristiano Ronaldo staying in Turin for another season, the biggest thing going in Juventus Land these days has to do with the status of their No. 10, Paulo Dybala, a player who hasn’t appeared on the field in over two months since suffering a knee injury in January. Dybala is very much a player who, this time last year, looked like he was going to be on the cusp of staying at Juventus for a very long time. Now, 12 months later, that standing at Juventus is very much in the air as we await his return to the field.

Ah, who wished for the early days of 2020 to be back?

Maybe in one or two ways, but all of the others ... nah.

The Dybala situation is where we center this week podcast around because it’s an international break and there’s nothing else going on. (Even if there was, it’s more productive than slamming our head on the wall because of Juve’s latest sub-par performance on the field.) So, behold, the most we’ve talked about Dybala in months mainly because he hasn’t played in a couple of months.

On this week’s episode of The Old Lady Speaks, we discuss:

  • ALL THE HOT AND SPICY DYBALA TAKES YOU ALL CAN HANDLE.
  • Has this been a contract extension negotiation with Dybala and his representatives that has lasted as long as it feels? (Yes.)
  • Just what it would mean for Juventus if Dybala leaves ... or stays.
  • Do we actually think Dybala is going to stay with Juventus beyond this season.
  • Twitter questions! (With a certain discussion of a certain young Italian midfielder who has been linked with Juventus quite a lot the last few weeks [and months] [and for essentially the last year or so if we’re being completely honest here] in the Italian press.)
