In the current footballing world where some of Juventus’ biggest revenue streams are still cut off as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, trying to find bargains on the transfer market is something that every club is in search of these days.

Juve look to be trying to take advantage of one of those situations in Genoa.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio on Tuesday night, Juventus are in talks with Genoa to sign 19-year-old midfielder Nicolo Rovella. Jumping on a young talent that could pay off down the road might not seem like the kind of move that Juve can afford the luxury of during the upcoming January transfer window. But there’s a catch when it comes to their reported pursuit of Rovella: his contract is set to expire at the end of the 2020-21 season and, according to Di Marzio, “it is probable that he finds little space in Ballardini’s tactical system.”

Di Marzio adds that Juventus could use midfielder Manolo Portanova — who has spent most of the 2020-21 season with Juve’s senior team after featuring for the Under-23 side in Serie C last year — as a bargaining chip to try and acquire Rovella.

While there is no price tag being thrown out there for what Rovella might cost Juventus if he were to sign with them come January, but with his contract set to expire the asking price wouldn’t be close to what it would if he were under contract for a few more seasons.

Instead, Juventus are looking to take advantage of the situation and bring in Rovella, who turned 19 years old earlier this month and made his senior team debut a little over a year ago in the Coppa Italia.

Rovella has made seven appearances for Genoa this season. One of those just so happens to be against Juventus a few weeks ago when the Italian champions visited the Luigi Ferraris. It was in that game where Rovella was one of Genoa’s best players, and the kind of showing that obviously caught the attention of the team that he lined up against.

Roma has been linked to Rovella as well, but as of right now Juventus are the only team that have been in talks to sign the young midfielder, according to the Italian media.
