The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, Episode 24: Euro Step (Backwards)

New, comment

Juventus had the chance to make an early-season statement against Barcelona this week. Instead, the Italian champions and their first-year manager laid an absolute egg on their home field Wednesday night.

Over the past seven days Juventus has dropped points against a mid-table side in Hellas Verona and then gotten beaten handily by Barcelona in the first true big game of the 2020-21 season. Both games were at home, and both games saw Andrea Pirlo’s Juventus truly fail to impress during a stretch in which they are missing some of their most important players.

Take a wild guess as to what this week’s pod centered around.

On this week’s episode of The Old Lady Speaks, the discussion was basically 60 or so minutes of nothing but the fallout from Juventus’ 2-0 loss to Barcelona on Wednesday night. Not just what went wrong for Andrea Pirlo — both in this game and during the course of the early season so far — but also the issues that currently present the club.

(As an FYI, this podcast was recorded Thursday, which means we still weren’t sure as to when Cristiano Ronaldo was going to test negative for COVID-19. As we know, that negative test result and subsequent announcement came Friday.)

So, to recap what we walked about on this week’s episode of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast:

  • A little bit of a venting session to open things up.
  • Chuks discusses how to make VAR better. (Maybe?)
  • What the heck, Federico Bernardeschi?
  • What the heck, Paulo Dybala?
  • Juventus’ roster is getting a little healthier, so how should Pirlo go about things these next three games before the international break and the couple of weeks after that?
  • DANILO?! Danilo!!
