Coppa Italia Game Time Thread: Juventus vs. Atalanta

It’s off to Bergamo we go!

Tonight, Juventus will face Atalanta at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri D’Italia in the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia. Just one year ago, on this very day, Juventus faced Atalanta at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri D’Italia in the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia.

The more things change, the more they stay the same, right?

At least the last 12 months or so anyway.

So, in case you forgot about that game or just realized that the fog was so bad that late-January night in Bergamo a year ago, here’s something to hopefully help:

There won’t be actual LEGO’s playing in this Coppa Italia fixture tonight. There won’t be any kind of appearance by the guy who got the game-winning goal in last year’s fixture since Gonzalo Higuain now calls London his home after signing on loan with Chelsea.

But we will probably get the same Juventus-Atalanta game that we’ve gotten the last few years. You know, the one where it’s probably one of the more competitive games that Juve play all season long because, no matter who they run out there, Atalanta just plays so damn well against the class of Italian football these days.

We saw it just a few short weeks ago when Atalanta and Juventus played out a 2-2 draw and we got to see Cristiano Ronaldo come off the bench to play the role of late-game hero. And we’ve seen it plenty of times the last couple of years as well.

So, as Juventus try to figure out how the hell to stop the red-hot goal scoring form of Duvan Zapata, maybe they’ll end up advancing to the Coppa Italia semifinals for the 55th straight year. (Give or take a couple of seasons, guys. We’re not perfect here. At least not all the time.)
