International Champions Cup Game Time Thread: Juventus vs. Real Madrid

Did you hear Cristiano Ronaldo used to play for Real Madrid and now plays for Juventus?

In just a matter of hours, Juventus will be on a plane back to Italy, en route to Turin to meet up with their new teammate (Cristiano Ronaldo) and their new old teammate (Leonardo Bonucci). It will be the unofficial start of the preseason’s final stretch, with the official season opener in Verona only a little more than two weeks away.

Juventus has one more friendly to play here in the United States where this post is being written.

And, as somebody who knows some things about some things some of the time, I’m preparing you for two hours of the following: Non-stop talk about Ronaldo ... who’s in Turin.

Juventus facing Real Madrid would have garnered a whole lot more attention despite it being preseason if a certain Portuguese superstar was around instead of hanging back in Italy after his post-World Cup vacation. Despite that, there’s going to be a lot of mentions of Mr. Ronaldo based on the two teams that are playing today — the one he used to play for and won a whole lot of trophies at and the one he just signed with a couple of weeks ago.

I’m just here to prepare you guys for it.

We will watch Juventus play their final 90 minutes worth of game time in the United States, we will watch them hopefully not look like a total disaster and then we will watch them head back to Italy where Ronny and Paulo will welcome them back with open arms and plenty of wonderful smiles.

This is the final day of the U.S. tour, one that has seen plenty happen — although a lot of it has actually been back in Italy rather than on the field. (Thank goodness for Andrea Favilli, right?)

So, enjoy yourself one last time in the United States, Juventus. And, please, nobody get hurt.

(For real, though, can somebody count how often they talk about Ronaldo on the broadcast?)
