There was a stage early in this game when Juventus were nine points clear of Napoli with five games to play. But when the final whistles blew across Italy, that lead is now at just four points with the Naples-side coming to Turin on Sunday in what is surely the Scudetto-decider.
After Juventus could only draw 1-1 at Crotone, manager Massimiliano Allegri spoke to the media.
“It’s always a tricky game in Crotone, we did very little this evening and it was not a good performance.
“It wasn’t easy, as we had to pass it around without forcing it or being hasty. We already had the sensation we could concede in the first half, as it clearly wasn’t our night.
“We didn’t stay tight enough and we let Crotone get lots of balls into the box and break through down the right.”
The Bianconeri could have had the title virtually sealed up and instead face a nervy time this weekend now.
“Well football changes quickly. Tonight we had to be more clinical in front of goal that’s for sure. We have to stay calm and get ready for the game against Napoli.
“We must try to beat Napoli now to take a real leap forward, but either way, the season ends on May 20. We are in good shape physically and I am sure Sunday will be different.
“These are the games you need to bring home the bacon and we didn’t hold our lead in Crotone.”
Was he disappointed that the six-point lead going to the game had gotten cut down?
“Just over a month ago, we would’ve been more than happy to go into the head-to-head match with a four-point lead.
“It’s going to a fascinating match.”
