Monday brought medical exams for Giorgio Chiellini. And, as most probably expected, the first domino has fallen. And because of it, there won’t be any sight of Chiellini during the international break — and hopefully it doesn’t last much longer than that.
Juventus announced on its website that Chiellini, who was subbed off due to injury in Saturday’s scoreless draw against S.P.A.L., has withdrawn from Italy’s friendlies against Argentina and England and returned to Turin.
Having undergone medical tests, Giorgio Chiellini has withdrawn from Italy’s upcoming international friendlies against Argentina and England after reporting a niggling injury to the flexor muscles in his right thigh during Saturday’s match away to SPAL.
The Bianconeri defender has therefore returned to Turin, where his condition will be monitored between today and tomorrow.
The hope is that those monitoring Chiellini’s condition won’t have to do so beyond Monday and Tuesday because the line of thinking goes that the longer they have to keep an eye on him, the longer it means his status is completely up in the air.
Earlier Monday, Tuttosport reported that Chiellini’s status for both Milan’s visit to Turin coming out of the international break and the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal tie against Real Madrid is in doubt with his latest injury development. This was before Chiellini decided to leave Italy’s training camp in Coverciano once the results of his medical exams were known.
