It wouldn’t be a January transfer window rumor cycle without talk of Juventus trying to sign somebody on a free transfer, would it?
Beppe Marotta may now officially be a member of Inter Milan’s front office, but the free transfer trend that Juventus has used to its fullest potential looks to be in full effect under the direction of Fabio Paratici. At least that’s what certain corners of the Italian media are telling us this weekend.
According to Sky Sport Italia’s transfer crew, Juventus have started to work on a deal that would see Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey — yes, the same player that Tuttosport has been linking with a move to Juventus for what seems like over a year now — arrive on a free transfer this summer.
#Juventus are ready to make a bid to Aaron #Ramsey as free agent for next June. His contract with Arsenal will expire on next June 2019 and he's in talks also with other club (also PSG). But now Juventus are preparing the bid and started contacts to get Ramsey. #AFC #Juve

Here is more, courtesy of Gianluca Di Marzio:
At the moment, Juventus are in the lead in the race for the Gunners’ midfielder, who is also of interest for Inter and PSG. However, the player’s demands were deemed too high by the Nerazzurri, with Ramsey asking a salary considerably higher to what Inter’s board has offered to Icardi to renew his contract. As far as PSG are concerned, it looks like the Welshman isn’t conviced about the possibility to join the French club.
Now, as we know, Juventus’ midfield depth has been a major issue this season. Saturday’s 1-0 win over Roma was the first time in a long time that Max Allegri had all five midfielders available and healthy. We can say that the lack of midfield depth has allowed Rodrigo Bentancur to flourish and really establish himself as one of Juve’s best midfielders — and that would definitely be true. But even then, Juve are going to be competing in all three competitions come the new year, and any kind of limited depth is going to cause some major, major issues when it comes to Allegri trying to keep things fresh.
Not that a potential Ramsey arrival would help things out this season, obviously. And if I were to choose between Juventus adding a cheap option in the midfield during the January transfer window or in the summer, I would much rather want one now considering what kind of situation Juve find themselves in and what the aspirations of this season clearly are.
But it seems pretty certain that, in some kind of fashion, Juve are going to take a run at Ramsey and continue their free transfer trend.
So, would Ramsey actually make sense? I decided to ask some folks who know him well.
He’s an awesome if oft injured midfielder. Works best as box to box player with midfield support.
