Beppe Marotta again talks up Juventus’ interest in Liverpool’s Emre Can

When Beppe sees a free transfer out there, one must think he is looming in the distance.

The arrival of the 2018 calendar year means that there is officially another transfer window upon us. This one, quite possibly landing in the “thankful” category, doesn’t last nearly as long as the summer window that usually has clubs scrambling to make moves on the final days.

Juventus, as is usually the case, doesn’t look like it will be doing a whole lot of business during the first month of the new year. At least when it comes to add to the the current roster, that is.

When it comes to next season, though, there’s already some business to take care of. And it’s not like the player Juventus are targeting is a mystery at this point.

“Emre Can is a good player and a good opportunity. That’s all I will say for now, and all we have said in the past too.”

This is from an interview Marotta, Juve’s incredibly accomplished director general of the past seven-plus seasons, gave before seeing his club go out and beat Hellas Verona 3-1 thanks to Paulo Dybala’s second-half brace on Saturday night.

And while said quote is only two sentences long, one could surmise what a lot of us already think is going to happen this January.

It’s the fact that Juventus are going to try and make Emre Can their latest free transfer acquisition. And the fact that Marotta describes Can as “a good opportunity” doesn’t exactly make it seem like he has doubts about getting a deal done.

That could go along with the line of thinking that many in the press — be it in England or along the masses in Italy — think that Juventus is Can’s likely destination. He’s been linked with a move to Turin for about a year now, with a contract extension with Liverpool looking less and less likely as the days go by. And seeing as it’s now January and he’s free to negotiate with any club he wants when it comes to where he will be plying his football next season, well then the 23-year-old German midfield coming to Juventus is most certainly a possibly.

Yep, just like Beppe said.
