Juventus’ reported interest in Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has always come with a caveat. That is, they were going to start looking into signing a player who was reportedly close to signing a contract extension with his current club. But there was also going to be a chance that said negotiations didn’t work out, this creating a chance to swoop in and snag the German international away from Jurgen Klopp’s team.

We don’t exactly know where said negotiations stand right now.

But there is a new piece to the puzzle when it comes to the Can chase.

According to Wednesday’s edition of the the Corriere dello Sport, Juventus have not only upped their attempt to try and get Liverpool to budge on their reluctance to keep ahold of Can but table their first offer for the 23-year-old German. The amount of that offer? A cool €25 million. The one problem? Liverpool reportedly want €30 million for Can, who has one more year left on his current contract.

An additional report, this one from La Gazzetta dello Sport, hinted at Juventus moving Can into the driver’s seat when it comes to their top choice for a midfield signing this summer. That means, at least when it comes to this week’s midfield power rankings, Can has surpassed the likes of Blaise Matuidi and Steven N’Zonzi.

Isn’t this fun?

It’s a new top target in the midfield every week, folks!
