Another edition of Rate the Players has been completed, this time with a lot more votes heading in the ‘up’ direction. This time around, the net votes were 2357 upwards, compared to the Super Cup where they were 495 downward. 326 voters participated in this edition, a nice turnout - thanks to all who participated aside from the 6 that down-voted Buffon, I’d love to get an explanation for that one.

Paulo Dybala led the way again, with 271 net votes in his favour. The Argentine looks like he’s enjoying the #10 jersey, and has come out of the gates flying to start the year. Gianlugi Buffon ended up with the second best score with 252 votes, as Mario Mandzukic rounded out the top three with 222 votes. Honourable mention goes out to Miralem Pjanic who was just shy of the top three with 214.
Juan Cuadrado was the only player with a negative final score. While he wasn’t impressive, part of me thinks that a lot of those votes are coming in because he was starting over Douglas Costa - which really isn’t his fault.
A reminder how the J-Score™ is calculated, I take the players net votes and divide it by the number of voters - so to get a perfect score of 1.00, all voters must upvote that player.
Both Miralem Pjanic and Mario Mandzukic pulled their season J-Score out of the negatives with their strong showing. Paulo Dybala (obviously) remains in first place with a score of 0.69. Mehdi Benatia now falls into last place, as he did not get a chance to make up for his dreadful performance against Lazio.
Against Cagliari it was a much better game than the Super Cup, and the votes certainly reflected that.
