It wasn’t too long ago that Nicola Leali was the early favourite to replace Gianluigi Buffon after he hung up his cleats. Nowadays, that idea seems extremely unlikely. Leali has spent the majority of his entire Juventus career on loan, and this year seems like it will be no different.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the 24 year-old keeper is close to joining Zulte Waregem of the Belgian Pro League on a loan with an option to purchase at the end of the term.
Leali spent last season on loan at Olympiacos of the Greek League. He made 10 Europa League and 12 Greek League appearances, while earning himself a Greek League title - which is a formality for Olympiacos, really.
At age 24, it is becoming less and less likely that Nicola Leali is part of Juventus’ future. Who knows though, maybe this is the year that he goes on loan and sines with the potential that was seen from him during his younger years. Don’t hold your breath.
