Game Time Thread: Juventus vs. Genoa

An eight-point lead with six games to play seems like a pretty safe bet for the Scudetto staying in Turin for yet another season. One might have said that Juve were a sure thing to win the title with half — or even one-third — of the season gone, but there are just a few more wins and points needed to collect before this thing is mathematically over and done with.

Tonight in Turin, it’s the latest chance to get even closer to said title.

Juventus hosts Genoa in what will be one of the final Serie A games at Juventus Stadium for the 2016-17 season. The very last one will almost certainly see Gigi Buffon hoisting the latest Scudetto above his head for another season, but tonight brings Juve’s chance to get in position to clinch the Scudetto in relatively short order going forward.

Max Allegri has always targeted a certain point total to reach and lock up the title. And that point total is quite close to being achieved. Juventus, in a cliché kind of phrase, definitely has one hand on the league title right now. They’re close. They’re very, very close. Even with a game against Roma still lingering on down the line, it might not even matter with the current eight-point gap between the two ensuring that the title can be won before one final trip to the Stadio Olimpico takes place next month.

Today, however, isn’t about Roma. It’s not about thinking of Juve’s next opponent in the Champions League. It’s about trying to beat Genoa — something that Juventus failed to do when the two teams played at the Marassi earlier this season.

There are your match details, my friends. If you want to read them again and feel like a BWRAO-generated list would be more to your liking, then go ahead and scroll down. This is not news to anybody. But hey, the starting lineup maybe well be, so there’s also that to check out before kickoff at Juventus Stadium tonight.
