France vs. Republic of Ireland live stream: Game time, TV schedule and how to watch Euro 2016 online

France and Germany entered Euro 2016 as two of the favorites to take home the tournament title. And while the group stage didn't exactly start off like gangbusters for the defending world champions and Euro 2016's host nation, they both enter the knockout round knowing that it will take a gauntlet-like route to get to the final next month.

Today is the first step in that quest.

Paul Pogba, Patrice Evra and the rest of the France national team look to avenge a so-so showing in the group stage when they open Tuesday's action against a Republic of Ireland side that is probably still buzzing — no pun intended; or maybe there is — after its win over Italy earlier in the week. Not too long after that, another Juventus midfielder, Sami Khedira, and Germany face Slovakia in Lille.

Both France and Germany are certainly the favorites to advance.

I think that's pretty clear based on pre-tournament expectations, who's on their respective rosters and who each team is matched up against in the Round of 16.

Now the only thing they have to do is go out there and prove all those folks who have tipped them for big things were right on the money. And when it comes to Germany's potential quarterfinal opponent, it's not going to get much easier. This side of the bracket is absolutely stacked, so you know they're going to want to improve upon how they played during the eventful group stage.
