Plenty of literary figures have weighed in on the subject of expectations -
"Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed."
― Alexander Pope
"When you stop expecting people to be perfect, you can like them for who they are."
― Donald Miller, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: What I Learned While Editing My Life
"I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine."
― Bruce Lee
"I find my life is a lot easier the lower I keep my expectations."
― Bill Watterson, Calvin & Hobbes
"You can't expect everyone to have the same dedication as you."
― Jeff Kinney, Diary of a Wimpy Kid
I picked a selection of quotes to reflect the broad spectrum covered by the subject, and also to reflect the opinion that while sometimes we have great expectations of players who put on the Juventus jersey, they don't always live up to those standards that we as fans set for them, due to a variety of reasons, some on their own part, and some entirely circumstantial.
Having said that, I am now going to pose another question - What Juventus player in this century did you have the highest hopes for but didn't live up to your expectations?
To make your task easier, here's a page that compiles the squads of each of the years covered so you can get right down to it. Jump right in in the comments below, let's hear your thoughts.
The picture should tell you who I had hoped would be the second coming of Pavel Nedved, and eventually ended up in Fenerbahçe's reserve side.
