Game Time Thread: Juventus vs. Sampdoria

Claudio Villa

We've waited for months. Dealt with hundreds upon hundreds of stupid transfer rumors. We've seen Juventus travel to America, play not very well in America, and then come back to Italy with zero wins to show for all the work they put in.

It's the day we've all been patiently waiting for. No more waiting around the countdown clocks and looking at the calendar to see how many days there are left before Juventus hit the field again for a game that actually counts against their season's record. No mas, guys. It's all over with and now we can say that Juventus is officially back in business.

So say it with me now, folks: Hooray hooray! Serie A opening day has finally arrived.

Unlike the past two seasons where we've seen Antonio Conte's men celebrate goals against Parma at the Juventus Stadium, Juve will be on the road to begin their second straight season of defending the league title. It's off to Genova and the Luigi Ferraris, a place that where Juventus lost the last Serie A game they played last season.

It wasn't exactly how we all drew it up — ya know, not beating Sampdoria in the two times Juventus played them last season — but sometimes we're wrong and we just have to deal with it.

There's also this: New season, new gameplan. Or, for Conte and his band of bianconeros, the objectives kinda remain the same — defend the Scudetto and try their damndest to conquer Europe. But we'll worry about the Champions League when we get there. Today is about the beginning of the Serie A season and that's really all that matters.

Juventus-Sampdoria under the lights at the Luigi Ferraris. Sounds like a nice way to spend a Saturday.

Juventus XI (3-5-2): Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo, Pogba, Asamoah; Vucinic, Tevez

Juventus bench: Storari, Caceres, Ogbonna, PDC, Giovinco, Peluso, Llorente, Marrone, Padoin, Quags, Matri, Isla

Sampdoria XI (3-5-2): Da Costa; Gastaldello, Palombo, Costa; De Silvestri, Eramo, Krsticic, Obiang, Castellini; Eder, Gabbiadini

No surprises here. Let's play some ball.
