Liverpool and Juventus have agreed a one-year loan deal for Alberto Aquilani.
The midfielder will undergo a medical in Italy on Monday.
Well. That was a Moggi-style move if there ever was one. Nothing on Wednesday.....Thursday Hodgson says "he could go on loan to Italy" then Friday it was "to Juve" and on Saturday it was official. Clearly he had been negotiating this under the radar before. Well done, Beppe. Here was Aquilani's thoughts on the move-
How's this for confusing? Ranieri signed Sissoko from Liverpool. Then refused Xabi Alonso from there for Poulsen, because Xabi was "too slow." Then Xabi has a great year, signs for Real Madrid, Aquilani goes to Liverpool as his replacement, and then this summer Liverpool and Juventus swap Aquilani and Poulsen while Ranieri is now at Roma.
Alberto Aquilani is “crazy with joy” about his imminent move to Juventus. “I hope to recapture the Nazionale jersey too.”
The Liverpool midfielder is all set to complete his loan with option to buy for €15.5m after an injury-ravaged spell in the Premier League. “I am very happy to be playing with the Bianconeri jersey. I’m just crazy with joy,” he told the Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport. “I also hope to recapture the Nazionale jersey too.” The former Roma star made reference to the fact Juventus had wanted him two seasons ago when Claudio Ranieri was still in charge. “I’m here two years late [and potentially for 8-9mil cheaper...], but I am so happy to make this move, as for me it is a bit like coming home.” Juventus and Liverpool are concluding the final details of the move, which will see the Bianconeri cover all of his €3.4m per season wages during the loan. They then have the option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the campaign for around €15.5m.
Giallorosso hearts breaking everywhere. Note we have also signed Aquilani's WAG. Marotta comments on the mercato.
“There are still 10 days until the end of the transfer session and we intend to act both bringing in and selling players,” said Marotta in a Press conference. He was presenting Milos Krasic to the media following his €15m transfer from CSKA Moscow. “We are still lacking a midfielder and a defender, possibly a centre-back, who has experience. We are satisfied with what we have done up until now. There aren’t many opportunities, but we’ll try to take them before August 31.” It is likely that the midfielder Marotta referred to is Aquilani, as the Juventus website has not yet made his arrival official.
A defender, eh? One seems light, personally I think we need one for each position as Grosso and Grygera are not competent enough, and a 4th CB is necessary also. Which reminds me of someone's availability...
There had been suggestions Alexander Hleb could be given another chance, but [Barcelona DS] Bartomeu says Hleb, Martin Caceres and Victor Sanchez are all set to go out on loan. "We are talking to a few clubs about loaning them out. There are different options and we are looking at what is best for the club and the players."
I may have bored you all with my love for Caceres but pleaaaaaaaaase Marotta, get it done! He can play LB, CB, or RB!
