In this post we’ll briefly talk about some possible line-ups ahead of Thursday’s meaningless Europa League match against Manchester City. We’ll also have the photos up from the 2-1 win over Lazio, and talk briefly about the injury situation all after the jump.
On the injury front, Marchisio had an MRI on his right calf muscle after Sunday's match that revealed no serious damage thankfully. However, as a precautionary measure, he'll miss Thursday's game against the Citizens, but will remain in doubt for this weekend's Serie A fixture versus Chievo. Speaking of the Manchester match, Del Neri tested out a possible defensive partnership between Grygera, Legrottaglie, Camilleri, and Traore in today’s practice session that could make its debut on Thursday. Seeing as we’re already mathematically eliminated from the Europa League competition it would be wise not to field any first-stringers so one can only imagine we’ll see some primavera talent on display as well.
In other injury news, Grosso and Iaquinta did not take part in today's practice with the team as they stayed in the gym, while the players who played against Lazio only had a light athletic workout on the pitch. Not sure if they're in fact injured, or just hurt. Also, Marco Motta attempted a return to action in practice today but had to leave prematurely after he felt some more pain in his lower back once again. Long-term absentee Rinaudo began exercising and should be available in January. The same goes for Buffon, Martinez, and Amauri. De Ceglie however is still scheduled to return in February.
