So the current rumors swirling around the peninsula are that Barcelona versatile defender Martin Caceres is in Turin tonight and will complete a medical tomorrow just as the team heads off to the United States. Spanish media has picked it up as well. Most outlets are stating he will arrive on loan, with an option of about 10million euros to sign in full at the end of the campaign, after Barca's sporting director refused Poulsen as a makeweight. Caceres and his agent have been pushing for a full divorce from the Blaugrana, You may recognize Caceres' agent, Daniel Fonseca, the bianconero Uruguayan supersub before Zalayeta, who has been talking up Juve to Martin. Apparently, he enjoyed his spell with the Bianconeri more than I thought.
The inevitable comparison will be with fellow-Uruguayan and Juventus Legend Paolo Montero, who alongside Ferrara conquered Italy and Europe in the 90s and early 2000s. Hopefully, Caceres will have watched the good Montero, not the "I have the record for most red cards in Serie A" Montero. While I agree with Ferrara that we needed another defender, I would have preferred a natural fullback first, though our center-back department is a bit short for my comfort. It is of course not a done deal, if the dealings with Udinese have taught us anything, it is to wait for the picture of Caceres with Secco, Blanc, and Ferrara on Juventus.com. And despite my satisfaction with signing a young defensive talent, part of me wonders what summer it is when we sign Diego, Melo, and Caceres, instead of starting Giovinco, and signing D'Agostino and Santacroce...
