Juventus News 3/6/07- The German Dream

Well all is pretty quiet today as the Italian trio prepare for their decisive Champions League fixtures, and the Bianconeri prepare for their match against Brescia. But I figured I needed to write a little to steal some of Inter's thunder, well because lets just say they like to have things that arent theirs. Well there is the usual transfer rumor, injury update, and a new coaching addition.

Christoph Metzelder held out with Borussia Dortmund long enough for management to give up on a contract extension. Their loss, our gain, hopefully. Juventus management has had Metzelder on their radar for long enough, and this is the perfect time to sign the defender. After suffering injuries and missing playing time, he may not be as highly regarded as he was 3-4 years ago but he can still be an integral part of the backline. After plenty of other names being rumored with Juventus for the defense, Metzelder is definitely my top choice. Only 26 years old he is still young, has experience, and is a big physical presence. I've liked Metzelder for years now and being a free agent at the end of this season, Juve management should be all over that, honestly it could be a bargain.

Next up injury updates, we seem to have plenty of those. Zalayeta (back pains) and Zebina (calf) will be back from their respective injuries this weekend, while Robert Kovac finaly trained today after his injury against Cesena January 16th. He will continue training to regain his match fitness, and Im guessing a target date for next week.

Starting today Narciso Pezzotti is apart of the Juventus coaching staff once again. He was Marcello Lippi's assistant from 1994-1999, Deschamps's assistant at Monaco and helped reach the Champions League final. He was also on Lippi's World Cup staff this summer, so as you can see Pezzotti is no bum. He will rejoin Juventus and help with Deschamps, and also Ciro Ferrara with the youth teams.

Lastly this weekend's match with Brescia will be played in Mantova because the Stadio Rigamonti has failed security inspections.

That is all for today, enjoy your Champions League Tuesday, and oh yes Eric Abidal shut up and stop bitching.
