February 27 Afternoon Quick Notes

After a deserved road victory at Modena yesterday, today has been an average newsday for Calcio and Juventus, even heading into a Serie A match day tomorrow, I wonder why that is? ha... First off a few quotes following the Modena win.

Gigi Buffon - "When we play like this, with the same level of determination, the other teams are going to suffer. Chiellini and Boumsong were brilliant at the back, and Zebina and Balzaretti also did very well. The example of perserverance came from guys like Del Piero and Trezeguet, both of whom had the right attitude out there"

Giorgio Chiellini - "I'm enjoying this central role, I'm getting better with every game and am developing an understanding with my team mates. We need to carry on like this. Today we had to show we have the right approach and that's just what we did. Oddly enough, we created more in the first half and only found the goal when we were more tired"

Coach Deschamps- "I'd almost given up hope. Having dominated the first half we paid for our efforts in the second, the stoppages and substitutions didn't help either. We got back on the right track in the last fifteen minutes though. The own goal? I'd have preferred something more concrete"

Valeri Bojinov - "When you come onto the pitch, you have to find yourself ready, you have to make the coach understand that he's wrong to leave you out of the side. That's what is required from a striker."

Lastly on the Modena match Del Piero's brutal tackle on Nicola Campedelli had the Juve idol making some apologies. It was physical match, both sides were aggressive, what do you expect? It wasnt like the Bianconeri were out to do harm to Modena players so that Rimini has the advantage in the derby Romagnolo next week.

Transfer news on the day, Ludovic Giuly & Nikola Zigic rumors are coming around. Reported on Sport.es Deschamps wants Giuly from Barca this summer, after having coached him at Monaco. I like this, I think Giuly is a versatile player and seems to score some clutch goals. Second Nikola Zigic, big Serbian striker at Racing Santander, young goal scorer with lots of potential. Zigic wouldnt be my first choice in the ever growing list, but may as well pile the names on.

Sir Alex Ferguson complimenting Didier Deschamps.... "they found a young coach like Deschamps who is doing an excellent job. He has galvanized the squad, even with the relegation, he knows how to motivate players like Del Piero, Buffon, and Nedved" well how sweet of you Sir Alex.
