My Open Letter To Paul Pogba

What a crazy last couple of days it has been. 2 months ago Juventus stood atop the pedestal of Italian football for the third consecutive season, now Max Allegri is our manager. Why Conte left, I can't even imagine. The thought out losing one of the best midfielders on the planet, a board that would not cooperate with his demands, I can merely speculate. What I do know for sure is that Masimilliano Allegri is the new manager of the Old Lady, and that he needs all of us; players, fans and coaches alike to stand by him.

However, I'm here not to recap what we already know, but to get out my feelings about the speculation regarding the future of one of my favorite players and personal footballing heroes. Bad enough is it that every other tweet or post is speculation about the departure of one or both of our beloved midfielders, but in truth the worst part is no matter the reassurances that the board give us, there is no way to be certain any of them will be kept. Paul, you are far and away my favorite footballer. You almost single-handedly reignited my love for the game. I go outside everyday, after I practice my usual dribbling and PK routines and try to emulate my best 'Pogbomb'. For what it's worth, I haven't really come close, I'm probably more likely to learn to how to do a Rooney-style bicycle before I can copy that brilliant Udinese goal. I mean, your game gives me something to look forward to. I sat in the back of class and streamed all the Juve games last season, biding my time until I got to see another Pogba Golazo. Your game is something I strive to emulate on all levels, and that is an effect that no athlete in any sport has ever had on me. Seeing how you attack defenders with flashy moves and brilliant pace, it's a marvel really. There is nothing ordinary about you or your skill set, and that is what makes you so fun to watch. All of it, attacking, defending, passing, hairstyle, it's all different. Flashy, but controlled. Enigmatic, but somehow expected. With all the rumors swirling about a potential departure, the thought of such an event is heartbreaking.

The fact of the matter is, this is one little letter, one little post that will never be read by Il Polpo Paul, but I write as if you're actually gonna see it, because I know for sure that I am not the only one who would miss the brilliant midfield exploits of the great Paul Pogba. I know Juve are not Real, I know they're not Chelsea or Barca or PSG or Man U (Thank God for that though, am I right?), but we have an incredibly loyal fan base that will do all they can to reward you for all you do for us. We don't have the money or the flash that those other clubs do. I know being an Italian champion isn't like being the English champion or the Spanish champion, but you're a winner nonetheless. Every year we're gonna head into the Champions League with high hopes, and Paul, you'll be an integral part of that. No other midfielder or back can match your athleticism and skill set. You have come so far since arriving here, and it would be incredible to see you become a superstar for Juventus. However, I fully understand that the business of sports is just that, a business. I just want you to know that here at Juve we have something that so many clubs big or small don't, and that is an incredible sense of unity, going from the bench to the pitch to the stands and to the boardroom. We all feed off of each other. Fans now are quick to pass hatred onto our new manager, but I believe that only because he was for so long the enemy. Sometimes the worst of enemies become the greatest of leaders, and I believe that with you remaining in the Black and White, fans will be quicker to calm their anger and embrace the team once again.

What I'm trying to say is that losing you would not only harm us on the pitch, but it would cause a major sense of dejection among all of us. You're the first players whose career I followed so closely from past to present, the first player who I tried to be like, seeing you in another shirt next season would be nothing short of devastating. You owe us nothing here, despite what some people try to say. To be honest, we owe you more than anything. You were a beacon of hope. You solidified our midfield and our future. "Paul Pogba: Golden Boy today, Golden Ball tomorrow" are the headlines I imagine. I thank Sir Alex every day for the mistake he made that day against Blackburn, as the ramifications of that day revived my love for the game.

Paul, I cannot force you to stay, none of us can. But I am here to say that we would all miss you. No amount of money or players can replace what you gave to the Juventus fan base, and nothing at all could replace the impact you've had on me as follower of the game, a fan of Juventus, and a footballer in my own right. My closing words are this: Paul, you mean the world to all of us. The fans, the players, all of us, we all think of you in such a high regard, we wear your shirt, emulate your hairstyle and cheer for you like the die hard fans we are. You are apart of us and our tradition, and our love for you is ingrained in our hearts and minds. No matter what happens in the coming weeks and months, just know that I'll always be your biggest fan, and that us here at Juve will always be grateful for everything you've given us. One day, you'll guide us to the pinnacle of European football, I just know it. The tide is rough now, but soon it will be calm again. I hope you are with us for those times. Finno Alla Fine. Grazie Pogba, for everything.

Regards,

Joseph Loftgren.
